The season 7 finale of Game of Thrones has finally aired. Obviously I watched it as fast as I could. Here’s my thoughts about the episode! Watch out: Spoilers ahead!
I have mixed feelings about this finale, or should I say season? Of course, a few things happened that I really wanted to happen, like Daenarys & Jon, the reunion of most of the stark kids.. Stuff like that. Let’s go through this one by one.
The whole season had some great fighting scenes, the same goes for this episode! I loved the contrast between the unsullied, who are very disiplined, and the chaotic wild horde of Dothraki. The scene looked great! I can’t say anything else about it than that.
Then we have the scene’s in King’s Landing.. This is what I am having mixed feelings about. Finally, Tyrion reunited with his brother & sister. Which gives the needed tension between them, of course. Earlier Sansa had send Brienne to King’s Landing and she is present as well. I loved the reunion between Brienne & The hound. I was looking forward to this! We also see Deany only having two dragons, which doesn’t go unnoticed by Cersei. Who made a gigantic entrance by the way, completely in Lanister style. Of course she denies the temporary truce at first, even after Jon showed her the Walker. Well, F you Cersei. I hope you get ripped apart (Seriously though: I love Cersei’s character. But she can really use a deeper motive than just family). After Cersei has a talk with Tyrion, which basically is Tyrion risking his life by entering the room of a murderous woman who wants to kill him, she agrees to the temporary truce.
Ok now on to another point that really caught my attention: The scene between Cersei & Jaime when the Queen tells him that they are going to betray their new allies. I love how loyal to his word Jaimy is in this scene. I think it brings some more depth into his character. One thing I didn’t like: Cersei says that if Jaime leaves to help their ‘allies’ then she will kill him. The mountain even draws his sword. Of course, Jaime is like ‘Bye Cersei!’ and walks away in a totally badass way. But it would have felt so good if Cersei had killed Jaime right there and then. It would have given her so much more ruthlessness that I think she simply is lacking lately. It would have been so awesome for Cersei to let the Mountain kill Jaime right there and then. But she didn’t, because she loves him. Which is why I am having mixed feelings.. Also did I already mention that Cersei is freaking PREGNANT? No not yet? Well.. Now I did.. I can’t say I didn’t see this coming. It’s quite obvious who the father is. I’ll give you a hint: There has been a lot of incest going on.
Talking about incest! Let’s talk about Jon and Deanerys shall we? They had sex, finally. There had been so much tension between these two for a couple of episodes that I simply saw it coming. Who didn’t? I mean it was quite clear. So they had a bit of fun in Daeny’s room on the boat. More incest! But this time, they don’t know it.
Let’s go on to Winterfell, where there is another dash of dead characters. Well, only one dead character actually. I didn’t really like this deadscene. It felt a bit rushed and out of place and unworthy for a smart character. At Winterfell Sansa and Arya seem to have a bit of bad blood between the two of them. In the end it is revealed that this has all been a plot from the two. At one point Sansa commands two guards to bring her little sister to her. In the room a lot of guards are presents, but also Little Finger & Brann. Arya is brought into the room and some accusations are throwns around. Plot twist! Not at Arya but at Pewtyr Baelish. He is accused for murder and a whole lot more. In the end he is killed by Arya with his own dagger. It felt like a bit of a low plot.. I would have liked it better if Little Finger would have gotten a different dead scene. It just feels like Petyr should have been too smart for this to work.. I don’t know how to exactly explain it, but that’s basically it.
We have a scene at the wall as well. It’s basically ‘things are getting really fucked up now’. I think that sentence describes this scene perfectly. The night king arrives at the wall and blows it edown with his newly found ‘ice’ dragon, Viserion. Whoosh! Bye bye to the wall. There are alot of other dead people here. There are two characters that I am seriously doubting that they are dead: Tormund and Beric Dondarrion. Simply because ‘If you didn’t see them die on screen and didn’t see a body, they aren’t dead yet’, which has been my motto for the whole series.
What did you think of the finale? Did you have mixed feelings like I had or did you really like it? Let me know in the comments below!
